‘How to make a zine without using a computer’ at Bildverkstad, Göteborg.

The workshop was intended for people who have some kind of creative practice and are interested in new ways of compiling and presenting their work. During the workshop, we went through techniques and some of the possible pitfalls of producing a zine without the aid of a computer. In the end, the participants collectively made a zine collecting tips and results of the workshop.

The workshop was led by Åke Sjöberg.

Workshop text:
A way to relate to zine making without using a computer that could be helpful is that it's not about learning how to do something in some specific "right" way. It's about finding methods that allow just to do something, in some way that might work for you.

The method we will try in the workshop is a Lo-Fi -DIY process, that can get something done quickly and easily, but that gives a certain trashy aesthetic. And with these methods, I hope that doing some kind of zine-like booklets will become an option, instead of not doing any zines at all. The offline Lo-Fi techniques might also be helpful for people that are better at interacting with physical objects (papers) than a computer.

We will only be using black and white, or greyscale, no colourin this workshop. This is because the cost of copying black often is a fourth of copying colour. And that copying colour is not something I have a lot of experience in. But the techniques we will try can also be applied to colour copying.
